Mission Stages
Author: Mission Youth
Every mission goes through a cycle of events which we call stages, and every mission kit equips the user with the necessary tools for each stage. There are four stages: planning for the mission, training the missionaries, doing the mission itself and following up after the mission. We call these stages Gear-Up, Base Camp, Mission-On and Summit Dispatch.
Let us look at them in more detail.
Gear-Up
This PREPARATORY STAGE is the behind-the scenes work done to promote the mission and make it happen. It encompasses the following:
• Communication Plan: Gaining approval from the proper authorities.
• Promotion Plan for the Mission: This ensures adequate marketing of the mission to all target audiences.
• Recruitment & Core Team Training: This includes personal invites and conducting special formation for the leaders.
• Logistical Planning: This includes securing a location, developing and reviewing the schedule, purchasing supplies, food, lodging, etc.
• Facility/Event Planning: Set up for the mission.
Base Camp
During this TRAINING STAGE, the missionaries receive their R.E.A.L. Training.
Mission Youth is committed to preparing missionaries to be real and authentic people, with hearts open to the people they serve. Therefore, Mission Youth gives participants integral formation, which we call R.E.A.L. Training. This training corresponds to four dimensions of the person: Human, Spiritual, Apostolic, and Intellectual.
Relate to Others
Encounter Christ
Act on your Faith
Learn the Faith
Relate to Others (Human Formation): Each mission works to foster human development in two areas, relationally and individually. On a relational level, we foster the development of virtues, especially charity and teamwork, which create lasting bonds of friendship. On an individual level, youth are equipped with the appropriate people skills to interact with those they will meet and serve during their mission.
Encounter Christ (Spiritual Formation): Every mission calls youth to grow in their relationship with Christ through challenging talks, personal reflection and prayer, spiritual direction and availability of the sacraments. This formation provides food for the soul and fosters love for others!
Act on your Faith (Apostolic Formation): Missionaries receive vital apostolic training to go out and be modern day apostles by bringing Christ's hope to the world. They receive training in the essential tools for effective missionary work.
Learn the Faith (Intellectual Formation): Training that touches both the mind and the heart helps prepare youth to share and defend the faith, first of all by deepening their own. Each mission includes an apologetics lesson tailored to the mission theme.
Mission On
During the ACTUAL MISSION itself, the missionaries are given the direction and support to carry out the mission themselves. This includes:
• Resources: Materials to hand out
• Props: Anything needed to perform their skits or complete the designated activities
• Guidance from Team Leaders and Mission Core Team directors
Summit Dispatch
This is the FOLLOW-UP STAGE. When missionaries return from a mission, they are led through a process of reflection to help them round off the mission experience. The Summit Dispatch could include testimonials, time for reflection and meditation, and promotion for the next mission. For any missionary who wants to continue and deepen the experience of Christ they had on missions, Regnum Christi offers further programs of formation and spiritual life. Those who feel called are also welcome to join the Regnum Christi Movement or work in one of its apostolates.
